At Primus Schoolhouse, we believe that children are unique, competent learners. Each child develops and learns in their own way and at different rates. Our safe, nurturing, learning environments support risk taking and give strategies to develop a growth mind-set, resilience and feel confident to find their way to success.

Our international preschool curriculum embraces both the Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Framework and Nurturing Early Learners Curriculum of Ministry of Education Singapore.

In our engaging programme, books transcend all curriculum areas. Integrated Inquiries provide a meaningful context for the development of learning outcomes. We start from what the children already know, value this knowledge, and plan learning experiences to sort out ideas and extend thinking. Primus Schoolhouse teachers are flexible and responsive to that unexpected “teachable moment”.

At Primus Schoolhouse we believe that skills, attitudes and values ensure our children are confident leaders and global citizens.

Our Teachers

Every child is a unique individual who learns in his or her own way responding differently to various teaching techniques. At Primus Schoolhouse teachers are responsive, encouraging children to find their own way, allowing for a variety of experiences and teaching strategies in the classroom, stimulating a child’s interest, scaffolding that curiosity into further learning and responding in a supportive way to the attempts to learn new skills.

Our dynamic teachers are facilitators, observers, active listeners, they model learning, orchestrate play and are reflective.

The Primus Schoolhouse child centred approach is inclusive and promotes self-reliant, intrinsically motivated, active learners, encouraging children to think for themselves and enjoy learning.

Learning Through Play

Research tells us that through play children make sense of their world. Through play children are curious, active, engaged and motivated to learn. At Primus Schoolhouse children are given time to explore new and developing skills, to experiment, repeat and practice discoveries in a meaningful context until they are fully integrated. Allowing children to re-visit situations, experiments and discoveries fosters self-esteem in the child as they gain confidence in their abilities. Children then have a positive self-identity from which a love of learning is created. Teachers inspire children to represent their understandings in a wide range of ways, role-play, arts and crafts, reading and writing, talking, and demonstrating. We encourage reflection and self-evaluation, fostering self-initiated learning.

Learning Partnership

Successful relationships are essential to a child’s development. The perception of oneself is made from the responses we get from others. Children who feel confident in themselves and their learning will have a head start.

At Primus Schoolhouse, parents and teachers work together to foster this confidence. Together we demonstrate that learning is life long, giving children strategies to become thinkers and problem solvers through being supportive, encouraging, questioning and appreciative. Primus Schoolhouse teachers demonstrate that we too are learners, and together we enter a process of discovery.

Our programmes are reflective of the children, their experiences, cultural, family and wider contexts. Primus Schoolhouse teachers facilitate strong communication links with parents, other school staff and the wider learning community.
